Your Safety Comes First: What to Expect
At Infinity, student safety and a positive learning experience are our highest priorities. We are committed to developing safe, responsible, and confident drivers who contribute to a safer community. Our goal is to give parents peace of mind, knowing their child is learning the skills, knowledge, and judgment necessary to become a responsible driver.
Before a student ever shifts the vehicle into gear, we begin by teaching the fundamentals of safe driving. Driving is much more than operating a vehicle—it requires awareness, focus, sound decision-making, and the effective use of our senses. We teach students to use common sense and develop habits that help them recognize potential hazards before they become problems.
Learning Through the Four Senses
1. Seeing – The Most Important Skill
Safe driving begins with observation. Students are taught to carefully examine their surroundings before entering and operating the vehicle.
They learn to look for:
Obstacles or hazards in their path of travel
Pedestrians, bicycles, and other vehicles nearby
Tire condition and proper inflation
Warning lights or maintenance indicators
Fuel level and instrument gauge readings
Weather and roadway conditions
By developing strong visual scanning habits, students learn to anticipate potential problems and make safer driving decisions.
2. Feeling – Understanding Vehicle Response
Driving requires coordination between the driver's hands, feet, eyes, and mind. Students learn to recognize how the vehicle responds to their actions.
They become familiar with:
The feel of the steering wheel
Brake pedal pressure and stopping distance
Accelerator pedal control
Shifting into gear
Vehicle movement and handling
Changes in road surface conditions
Understanding how a vehicle feels during normal operation helps students identify unusual conditions and respond appropriately.
3. Hearing – Listening to the Vehicle
A vehicle often communicates problems through sound before a warning light appears.
Students learn to recognize:
The normal sound of a properly running engine
Unusual noises during startup
Warning sounds from brakes, tires, or suspension components
Changes in engine performance
For example, if a vehicle fails to start, students learn that the cause may be a weak battery, starter issue, or another mechanical problem. Recognizing unusual sounds can help prevent breakdowns and costly repairs.
4. Smell – An Early Warning Sign
Although often overlooked, the sense of smell can provide important information about a vehicle's condition.
Students are taught to recognize odors that may indicate:
Fuel leaks
Overheating components
Burning rubber or electrical wiring
Mechanical issues requiring attention
Sometimes a driver may smell a problem before it becomes visible, making this an important safety awareness skill.
Building Safe and Defensive Drivers
In addition to vehicle awareness, students receive instruction on safe and defensive driving techniques. They learn how to identify hazards, maintain proper following distances, manage distractions, make sound decisions, and share the road responsibly with others.
At Infinity, our goal is not simply to teach students how to operate a vehicle. We teach them how to think, observe, and react as safe drivers. By building strong habits from the very beginning, students gain the confidence and awareness needed to make smart decisions behind the wheel and help keep our roadways safe for everyone.
